Moreno is a conservation biologist with a strong interest in developing quantitative techniques for addressing large-scale biodiversity problems.

He works on conservation planning and macroecological analyses, in the context of international biodiversity targets. He is particularly interested in predicting the effect of global land use and climate change on species extinction risk, and how this affects aggregate biodiversity patterns.

Over the past 7 years he has collaborated with ~150 researchers from all over the world, while working for NGOs, universities, and governmental agencies. Moreno was awarded a PhD in July 2013 from Sapienza University of Rome (Italy) and has been a postdoctoral fellow at UQ between 2015-2017, partly funded by CEED, before moving to CSIRO Land & Water. He serves as handling editor for the journal Conservation Biology .
