Jian is a mathematically trained ecologist working broadly across population and community ecology. He is particularly interested in linking theory and data to develop more accurate models of ecological populations and communities. His current work emphasizes the use of functional traits to construct models that can be transferred among species and ecosystems. Jian completed his PhD in January 2016 at Monash University. He is currently a post-doctoral research fellow at The University of Melbourne.
